in a few hours the 16-year-old who brought a loaded pistol to wilson high school in december will find out his punishment. he pleaded guilty to an unregistered fire arm and unregistered ammunition. it's not clear how the gun government past the school's metal detectors in washington. no one was hurt in that incident. d.c. is installing more surveillance cam rams. the rebates apply to businesses, property owners, and religious groups who install security cameras and register them with d.c. police. mayor bowser will sign the bill in the southeast at 11:00 this morning. police are hoping this surveillance video will help arrest the person you see there. police believe two armed robberies were committed by the same man. the first robbery happened at a cvs store at 40th street and benning road east on tuesday morning. the police say later that morning the same man robbed a

headline. trump, way up, cruz going down. >> you can hear the boos there as candidates start to hit harder ahead of the iowa caucuses. many think last night's debate in south carolina felt like a three-man race between donald trump, ted cruz, and marco rubio. tracie potts is live on capitol hill. tracie, what is the impact it's going have on the voters in iowa? >> ted cruz and donald trump mixed it up last night. trump thinks it has to do with the numbers in iowa. we know the iowa voters are watching very closely. remember, these are caucuses, not primaries, so people get much more involved in their candidates in iowa. much more focused the issues, which they did talk about quite a bit last night. >> what about the democratic challengers? they had a big night on social

media. bernie sanders and hillary clinton active. >> they were tweeting about this. hillary clinton said 2 1/2 hours. just imagine four years. bernie had a message for donald trump. no, we're not going hate latinos or muslims. we're going to stand together, #gopdebate. it became a topic of discussion with other candidates weighing in as to whether or not it's something we should do or disagree about it. >> jeb bush still trying to gain trarkz criticized trump on banning muslims from the united states. take a listen. >> this policy makes it impossible to build a coalition necessary to take out isis. the kurds are our strongest ally. they're muslim. you're not going to even allow them to come to our country? >> and so what do you think the response comes from? where is bush trying to take that line of debate?

>> what bush is trying to say and some other candidates have said is we cannot do a complete ban. what donald trump has said is we need to pause things until we decide who's coming into this country and he's not the only person on this stage who agreed with that. that's one area where the republican candidates seem to be really split on how far we're going to go in protecting our country. they all agree we need to keep our country safe. they all agreed we need to keep terrorists out of our country. but how far do you go in pressing and perhaps violating religious freedoms in order to do that. >> right. and real quickly, tracie, one of the things that people criticized this debate about, it felt more like an interview and there weren't enough follow-ups from the moderate irs. chuck todd tweeted that too. >> some of the candidates took up more time. even ben carson who's much more reserved jumped in and said,

>> their conversation wasn't all jokes though. clinton said all the candidates have a tough task ahead of them. >> and it really depends upon, you know, who makes the best case that you can be the nominee to be whoever the republicans put up and try to get your folks who support you to come out. i find it exciting. the next democratic debate set for sunday night on nbc. clinton, bernie sanders and martin o'malley all expected to be there. there looks to be a new race for me toe. jim corcoran bowed out. he said he doesn't have enough time for the job. now d.c. councilman jack evans is the top contender. the board's eight members will vote on january 28. 16 weeks of paid family leave. that's the proposal in the district but officials say the

six months after angie had a baby she ran the marine corps marathon. >> talk to me after i have a baby. >> oh, lord. outside on a friday morning, what to expect for today. we're going to be off to a mild and sunny start. the first part of your friday is going to be amazing. clouds are going to come racing in friday afternoon. wlierkly to have rain about 6:00 or 7:00 tonight. if you're going to be gone all day and not coming home from work or whatever your plans are until much later, take the umbrella with you. 28 in maryland, 41 winchester, 41 in culpeper, 31 in capitol heights. temperatures are 5 to 15 degrees warmer than we were yesterday morning. yesterday turned out to be a beauty of day. planning to go out for your resolution run this morning training for the marathon perhaps? temperatures in the 30s. not too terribly cold and plenty of sunshine. honestly if you can run at lunch

hour, that's going to be the best time. radar shows the rain moving into atlanta. it's only about 14 hours a day. it puts it right smack dab in the beginning of your friday evening plans. it will be mild with increasing clouds. rain moves in after about 5:00 and rain will be likely between about 7:00 and 11:00. here's future weather. here come the clouds between 2:00 and 3:00. here's future stop at 6:00. here's the rain south and west of town. by 9:00 here's a batch of moderate rain. friday night dinner and a movie plans, take the umbrella for sure. rain should be out of here before the sun comes up tomorrow. highs tomorrow up near 50. it will be breezy at times. then on sunday, a chance for cloudy skies and maybe even snow flurries coming in sunday afternoon and more likely sunday night. that's ahead of the next big change. i'll speak more about the tumbling temperatures coming up at 5:01.

concern about gang violence in alexandria is growing after two recent arrests in high-profile murders. both victims were found dead in parks. the links are all linked to ms-13 gang. the gang is recruiting in schools and it tells parent as what to look out in their children. >> behavioral things, changes in bash and peer groups and family tivtss. >> they say the hundreds who have been arrested the most recently are the reason behind the push to increase membership. the fbi has been tracking them for some time now. they operate in at least 42 states including virginia and maryland as well as the district. the fbi putting their membership between 6,000 and 10,000 nationwide but they're expanding through recruitment and migration. they're linked to drug
